Spain, Costa del Sol
Santana Golf is a demanding course due to the unique design of each hole, which is intended to give the golfer a continuous challenge, even for the more experienced player.
The course is home to many trees including Avocado (obviously), eucalyptus, orange, fig and lemon, plus cactus, pines, olive and mango trees which make up the varied vegetation of this beautiful enclave, together with a varied population of indigenous birds, including the calzada eagle.
The SO Sotogrande is an excellent 5 star resort with bungalow-style rooms with their own terrace, overlooking the hotel gardens, golf course and the coast.
The 4-star Vik Gran Hotel is an excellent beachfront hotel in Mijas Costa. Ideally located for playing golf to the East of Marbella including La Cala and Santana.
Sol Atalaya Park is located in the very heart of the Costa del Sol and is one of Europe's best sporting resorts. This beachfront hotel is within close proximity to Saladillo Beach, El Paraiso Golf Club and Real Club de Golf Guadalmina.
The Hotel Encinar de Sotogrande is set in a privileged location near the beaches of the Costa del Sol, and some of the best golf courses in Spain such as Valderrama, home of the 1997 Ryder Cup, which is just 10 minutes away by car.
Michael Campbell, 2005 PGA Championship winner, described this course as “A demanding golf course that requires the combination of length and accuracy. It includes one of my favourite holes on the Costa del Sol, the 16th par 5."
With its wide fairways and large elevated greens, this championship course provides a challenge to golfers at all levels.
The third of three courses on the La Cala Resort, it is fair to say that the Europa layout is the friendliest of the trio.
Alcaidesa Links is the only links course in southern Europe and is designed by Peter Alliss and Clive Clark.
